When get uninterested in the cultural and historical attractions of Beijing, coming to have a wetland tour around Beijing will be the alternative of travelers. It is another aspect of Beijing tour---ecological tour to make tourists get close to nature and earth. Wetlands,covering only 6% of the Earth's surface and providing habitat to 20% of known species in the world, are called the "kidneys of the Earth" for their irreplaceable ecological function. In addition, they are also popular travel destinations. There are three wetland parks around Beijing, which lure city dwellers constantly for weekend escapes.

Hanshiqiao Wetland Park - Hide and Seek in the Reed.
Hanshiqiao park, which is located in Shunyi District of Beijing, has a wetland which is considered the only existing natural reed marsh in the capital. The wetland covers an area of about 1900 hectares, with 163.5 hectares of reed in the center of the area.
There are 292 species of plants in the nature reserve, with reeds, cattails, lotus and water lily making up the majority. The wetland is also home to 153 kinds of birds, many of which are nationally protected. Every year from March to May and from September to November, numerous birds including rare species such as herring gulls, large swans, white-rumped grass snipes migrate to the wetland. Some of them breed here and from May to October, tourists can observe the reproduction and brooding of the birds. Flowers of varying colors decorate the wetland in different seasons, among which, water lily and lotus are two species the wetland is most famous for.
The park is a 45-minute drive outside of downtown Beijing and is free to enter. The best way to tour Hanshiqiao Wetland Park – Family Bicycle Tour: Tour operators at the park offer bicycles and tourists can ride through the three major sections of the park, the forest area, the wetland and the road ringed lake.

Cuihu Wetland Park -- Barbecue and Star Watching
Cuihu Wetland Park, 21 miles away from Zhongguancun, located inside the 6th ring road in Shangzhuang village, Haidian District, is a top choice for barbecue and camping. The park is an artificial reserve that lends water from the nearby Shangzhuang water reservoir. The park is intersected into different sections including a lotus pond, a reed pond and several protected areas for animals and plants. With its clear water and well balanced eco system, the newly completed park has attracted large numbers of migratory birds like gray storks, herons and grey geese. Daoxianghu Natural Wetland Park – Harvesting the Nature
Encompassing 11.8 square kilometers, Daoxianghu Natural Wetland Park, is situated in Sujiatuo village, Haidian District, some 30 miles from downtown Beijing. It is financed by local farmers and is famous for its idyllic environment. Surrounded on three sides by hills, the park was established in 1984. With a 40-hectare natural lake as the centerpiece, the park is an ideal place for fishing. Squares of rice fields carpet the open land beside the lake, drawing groups of visitors in autumn when the fields turn golden. The park also offers various modern entertainment facilities such as electronic games and karaoke rooms. Travelers can get there by bus NO.330 and get off at Xixiaoying Station.
