The Geological Museum of China was founded in 1916 and one of the earliest museums opened in Mainland China. It is famed for its long history, large collection of geological curiosities and great harvests in scientific researches among geological museums in Asia. In addition to the museum's social educational functions, it has also an ideal place for tourism in Beijing city.
The world's largest and best-preserved dinosaur fossil – The Giant Shandong Dinosaur, and the tremendous collection of the strange "sinornithosaurus" (Chinese Dinosaur Bird) fossils, which are 140 million years before present. The earliest ancient man fossils found hitherto – Yuanmou Man's Teeth Fossils from Yunnan Province, the stone tools and stone ornaments from Peak Cave Man Site are being displayed.
