Known as the cradle of Chinese theatre artist, The National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts was initially founded in 1950. At the time, its name was Theatre Arts Experimental School of Ministry of Culture, and in 1955 it was formally named Chinese Theatre Arts School. In 1978, it was finalized to be The National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts. The initial president of this academy was Tian Han who was the founder of Chinese Modern Theatre Arts. Currently The National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts is comprised of ten departments: performance department, music department, director department, drama-literature department, stage arts department, basic education sector and postgraduate department and so on. The National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts is always the center or important education base for Chinese theatre arts development. In China many relatively famous artists, performers, actors or actress graduate from this special higher educational center.
